Nawaz expresses displeasure over botched Faizabad operation
Pakistan Press Club ISLAMABAD: Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday expressed displeasure over the botched government operation against protesters who staged a sit-in at Faizabad interchange in the federal capital for 20 days.
According to Pakistan Press, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader has chaired an informal meeting of his party that was attended by Raja Zafarul HAq, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Maryam Aurangzeb, Talal Chaudhry, Danyal Aziz, Pervez Rashid and Maryam Nawaz.
Sources told Pakistan Press that the meeting reviewed a host of issues including an agreement between the protesters and the government and the situation that has arisen after resignation of law minister Zahid Hamid.
The sources said the cases against the Sharif family, Nawaz Sharif’s departure to London, party’s mass contact campaign and an admentenment about the delimitations also came under discussion.
They said the former prime minister also held separate meeting with Ahsan Iqbal and Talal Chaudhry during which the ministers briefed him about the Faizabad sit-in.
On the other hand, Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai called on Nawaz Sharif and apprised him of contacts with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
Appears before Accountability Court
Earlier in the day, Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law captain (retd) Safdar appeared before the accountability court in connection with three corruption references.
The references were filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the orders of Supreme Court.
Judge Bashir Ahmed adjourned the hearing till December 4 due to absence of Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Haris.
When journalists sought former prime minister’s comments on Islamabad High Court’s Monday’s orders on the protests that recently paralyzed Islamabad, Nawaz Sharif said he would speak on the matter in a couple of days.
He said it wouldn’t be appropriate for him to pass comments in the courtroom.
The ousted prime minister arrived in the federal capital along with Maryam Nawaz.
Islamabad’s Mayor Sheikh Ansar received Sharif at the Benazir International Airport.
The accountability court has in previouis hearings recorded statements of five witnesses and today two more witnesses were to appear before Judge Bashir Ahmed to record their statements.
The former prime minister appeared before the court today for the eight time while his daughter y has ensured her appearance for the 10th time.
The NAB had filed three references against the Sharif family under the Supreme Court orders of July 28.
The references are related to family’s flats in London, Al Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment.
