stop aging with flower power

May be we can stop aging with the help of flowers

Not necessarily, but atleast we are able to attempt to seem like we did! Molecular biologist Marianna Ralli who handles technology at KORRES describes what researchers can do about this with flower-power and what goes on to the skin with aging.

All of the flowers on our world continue to be a mystery to science, to some large degree because the chemical structure of all species never been fully analysed.

Researchers have now been studying plants for several generations, but there’s still too much to learn. In Athens, scientists want to solve the strange qualities of plants.

Nearly 2,000 plant species have now been collected worldwide included in an European research study, in the South Pacific, Africa, Latin America, as well as in the Mediterranean.

Greece will be the perfect place for such study, based on Nikolas Fokialakis, a researcher in the School of Pharmacy, University of Athens: “Greece, and particularly its Mediterranean basin, is among the global biodiversity hotspots. Plenty of flowers listed here are unique and endemic. Therefore we gather plants to review them-and to locate any ingredients they may contain.”

Researchers identify specific compounds from plant ingredients, searching for biologically active substances that would be useful in cosmetics, as Dimitris Kletsas, a specialist in cell aging in the Start of Biology, NCSR, defined: “One of what causes aging in skin tissues is contact with challenges – like ultraviolet light, for instance.

‘If we are able to find substances that protect cells using this light, improving the protection system of the tissues – that would be useful for skin safety, or even to avoid the rapid aging of the cells.”

Previously, scientists needed to approach lbs of seed material to separate specific substances. Now with new devices all chemical compounds in a place could be determined with just a couple grams of extract.

The project has clear potential advantages.

“The important results of this research study may be the collection of bioactive substances. So far we’ve analyzed natural activity for related cosmetics or agrochemical reasons, however in the near future this collection might be employed for different goals, for example tests for diabetes, cancer or other illnesses,” says Teacher Leandros Skaltsounis in the University of Athens, School of Pharmacy, who’s also AGROCOS project manager:

Plant ingredients are mixtures of various substances, a number of that have been already analyzed, others that are new to science. Researchers shop so-called ‘fingerprints’ of substances in a database that allows them to concentrate on new findings.

Just how can this study lead to industrial improvements?

Euronews visited a cosmetics manufacturer in Greece that uses other natural elements in all its products as well as plant extracts. It’s joined forces with schools and research centers to produce new method utilizing the results of the research.

Molecular biologist Marianna Ralli is Controlled Affairs Manager of the KORRES task: “The traits we’re searching for within the ingredients and ingredients are three important characteristics related to cosmetics: the UV protection.”, the bleaching effect and the antioxidant activity

Commercial firms will require within the study in the technology systems to discover how better to combine them into services, and how effective new bio-energetic substances are.

“Our goal is to understand just as much as you possibly can by what nature provides, to expose the technology within the living laboratory of nature,” says Marianna Ralli.

“With this research, we’ll discover hopefully we’ll, after which the five most promising crops have really exciting news for consumers.”

You will find over 400,000 plant species On The Planet, and only 20% of these have now been fully analyzed. What secrets lie waiting to be found?.
